Ledbetter Bridge Traffic Enforcement

Date of News Release: 03/29/2012

(Ledbetter, KY) - The Kentucky State Police continue to enforce weight restrictions along the Tennessee River Bridge between Paducah and Ledbetter. Beginning February 29th, Kentucky State Police Troopers and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Officers began high visibility enforcement of the bridge which was in danger of closing due to violations of the three-ton weight limit. This enforcement was made possible by funding through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to allow for extended patrols of the bridge. During the first month of strict enforcement, Kentucky State Police have issued a total of 206 citations including 72 speeding citations, two DUI arrests, and seven seatbelt citations. Troopers and officers also issued 125 citations for offenses specifically related to violations of the three-ton bridge weight limit. Kentucky State Police plan to continue dedicated enforcement of the Ledbetter Bridge through the remainder of the calendar year.
