KSP In Mayfield Increasing Seatbelt Enforcement
Date of News Release: 03/01/2012
(Hickory, KY) – During the month of March, Kentucky State Police in Mayfield will be increasing occupant restraint enforcement efforts in an attempt to reduce fatal collisions in the Post 1 area. Although there have been fewer fatalities in 2012 than one year ago, all three fatalities in 2012 have been unrestrained. The mission of the Kentucky State Police is and always will be to enhance highway safety through education and enforcement. For this reason, Troopers will work extended shifts to observe for all occupant restraint violations to include no seatbelt, no child restraint, and no booster seat. Seatbelt usage has a direct correlation to motor vehicle fatality rates. Since the primary seatbelt law went into effect in 2007, Kentucky fatality rates have dropped each year. As warm weather approaches and traffic volume increases, motorists are reminded to buckle up and avoid any object which could be a distraction while driving. Motorists can enhance highway safety by reporting erratic and dangerous drivers to KSP by calling 1-800-222-5555.
