KSP Investigate Deadly Collision in McCracken County

(Paducah, KY) –- Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly collision which occurred early Tuesday morning in McCracken County. Just after 7:00 AM, Kentucky State Police Troopers where called to the scene of the collision which occurred on John Puryear Drive near the intersection of Old Husbands Road. A preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 1:30 AM, a 2001 Oldsmobile, operated by 35-year-old Shane Crooks, was southbound on John Puryear drive when, for reasons unknown, he left the right side of the roadway. Mr. Crooks attempted, but was unable to regain control of his vehicle. The vehicle overturned multiple times, ejecting an unrestrained passenger, 30-year-old David Willhelm. Mr. Crooks remained inside of the overturned vehicle for approximately 5 hours before freeing himself and contacting police. Mr. Crooks and Mr. Willhelm were both transported to Lourdes Hospital where Mr. Willhelm was later pronounced deceased. Both occupants of the vehicle were McCracken County residents. The Kentucky State Police were assisted by the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, McCracken County Coroner's Office, and Mercy Regional EMS. The investigation is ongoing by Master Trooper Christopher Anderson and Trooper Brian Duvall with the Kentucky State Police.
