Two Fugitives From Another State Apprehended

(Henderson, KY) -- Kentucky State Police were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on US Highway 231 north of Hartford, KY. Mark A. Cates was operating a 1993 Chevy S10 and pulled up to the checkpoint. Mr. Cates, who did not have his identification on his person and was also suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, was asked to pull to the side of the road for further investigation. Instead of doing so, Mr. Cates sped away from the checkpoint. Troopers and Ohio County Deputies pursued Mr. Cates for approximately 35 miles. The pursuit ended after Mr. Cates lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an earth embankment. Mr. Cates and his passenger, Nicole Taylor was arrested.
Mark A. Cates of Demotte, Indiana was charged with: Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree, Speeding, Tampering, Wanton Endangerment 1st degree 5 counts, Driving under Influence 2nd degree aggravated, Operating on Suspended Operators, Possession Controlled Substance 1st degree Meth, Possession of Marijuana 1st degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Disregarding Stop Sign 5 counts, Reckless Driving, No Insurance, Expired Registration Plates, Fugitive from another State.
Nicole M. Taylor of Demotte, Indiana was charged with: Possession of Controlled Substance 1st degree, Possession Marijuana, Buy/Possession Drug Paraphernalia, Tampering w/Physical Evidence, Fugitive from another State.
They were lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center.
