Ashland Man Killed in a Collision on KY 67
Date of News Release: 12/19/2012
(Ashland, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland is investigating a two vehicle collision that occurred on KY 67 at the intersection of Lost Lick Road in Greenup County, KY. The collision occurred around 1227 PM today. Nathaniel Nickell, age 18, of Ashland, KY was operating a 1992 Honda travelling Westbound on Lost Lick Road and entered KY 67. Joyce Callahan, age 70 of Olive Hill, KY was travelling Southbound on KY 67 operating a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. It appears Nickell failed to stop at the intersection and pulled into the path of Callahan causing Callahan to strike Nickell in the passenger side. After impact both vehicles traveled off the roadway and came to final rest.
Nickell was transported to Our Lady of Bellfonte Hospital and was pronounced deceased by Greenup County Coroner Neil Wright. Nickell was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. At this time alcohol/drugs do appear to be a factor in the collision.
Callahan and passenger Freda Rivers, age 55, were not wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. Both were transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital and are listed in fair condition.
Multiple agencies responded including Greenup County Sheriff's Department, Little Sandy Fire Department, Greenup County EMS, KDMC Health Net, KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and The Greenup County Coronerís Office.
The Collision remains under investigation by Trooper Ben Tanner.
