Vanceburg Woman Killed in a Collision on I-64

Date of News Release: 09/28/2012

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland is investigating a two vehicle collision that occurred on Interstate 64 in the Eastbound lane at the 159 mile marker in Carter County, KY. The collision occurred around 0227 PM today. Mary R. Logan, age 53, of Vanceburg, KY was traveling East on Interstate 64 operating a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM. Terry Anders, age 55 of Grassy Creek, NC was also traveling East on Interstate 64 operating a 2012 Freightliner Tractor Trailer. At the time of the collision the roadway was wet and visibility was limited due to heavy rain. It appears Ms. Logan lost control, traveled onto the shoulder of the roadway and struck the guardrail. After striking the guardrail Logan traveled back into the roadway and into the path of Mr. Anders. Mr. Anders then struck Ms. Logan and traveled through a guardrail and over an embankment.

Ms. Logan was pronounced dead at the scene by Carter County Coroner George Sparks at 320 PM. Ms. Logan was not wearing a seat belt and at this time alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Mr. Anders and passenger Melynda Anders, age 49, were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision and were not injured.

Multiple agencies responded including Carter County Sheriff's Department, Olive Hill Police Department, Olive Hill Fire Department, Carter County EMS, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Kentucky EPA, Grahn Fire Department, Carter County Emergency Management and The Carter County Coroner's Office.

The Collision remains under investigation by Trooper Jim Ryland.
