Death Investigation In Perry County

Date of News Release: 10/24/2012

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On October 23, 2012 at approximately 6:45 p.m. Kentucky State Police in Hazard received an anonymous call of a possible meth lab at the residence of 95 Robin Run in the Bonnyman community of Perry County.

Preliminary investigation led police to two plastic containers which appeared to be one step meth labs in a burn pile outside the residence. During the investigation no evidence of a meth lab, contraband, or hazardous materials was located inside the residence. Drug Enforcement Special Investigations with the Kentucky State Police were called to remove the bottles from the scene.

Three individuals were arrested at the scene on non-drug related charges. Wesley H. Fugate age 29, Alva D. Combs age 35, and John Combs age 56 were arrested on outstanding warrants and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Detention Center. Before leaving the residence the home owner, Alva Combs age 70, was observed on the couch and to be unresponsive. EMS was called to the scene and later the Perry County Corner. Mr. Combs was pronounced deceased by the Perry County Coroners Office. Combs's death does not appear to be related to the original complaint. The body has been taken to the Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy. The investigation is continuing by Det. Kevin Hurt.
