Flooding in Knott County

Date of News Release: 07/18/2012

(Hazard, KY) -- At approximately 11:50 am on 07/18/2012, KSP Hazard units along with the Knott County Sheriff’s Office, Knott County Police Department, all Knott County Fire and Rescue Units, Transtar EMS, Knott County Department of Emergency Services, the Knott County Judge Executive, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife were notified of a severe flooding incident in Breedings Creek in the Red Fox Section of Knott County. Upon arrival it was discovered that a silt pond had overflown flooding the hollow stranding numerous civilians. KSP Hazard Units, emergency responders, along with the Knott County Board of Education began evacuating the area due to the flooding and the possibility of an additional silt pond dam breaking. KSP Hazard Units and other emergency responders are still on the scene and continue to monitor a flooding emergency in the area. Emergency construction crews were on the scene attempting to gradually reduce the amount of water in the pond that threatens to burst and flood the hollow. All civilians were evacuated and relocated until the water can be removed. No injuries have been reported from the incident at this time.
