28 year old Letcher County woman dies in collision

(Hazard, Ky.) -- A 1997 red in color Jeep Cherokee which was being operated by Timothy R. Sexton age 29 of Isom, KY was traveling south along Highway 7 when the vehicle veered off the roadway and onto the shoulder into a ditch embankment becoming airborne overturning several times coming to a final rest in the southbound lane.

The only passenger in the vehicle Shannoka A. Adams, age 28 of Jeremiah who was not wearing a seat belt was ejected from the vehicle. An ambulance from Letcher ambulance service which was responding to another emergency call arrived moments after the collision and transported the victim to the Whitesburg ARH Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by Letcher County Coroner Marty Baker. The driver of the vehicle Timothy R. Sexton was also transported to Whitesburg ARH and later flown to a Tennessee Trauma center was treated for non-life threatening injuries and is in good condition. Trooper Jason Bates is in charge of the investigation which is ongoing at this time.
