Frankfort Police Department Officer Involved Shooting

(Frankfort, KY) -- On Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 21:15 PM, Frankfort Police Department received a 911 call reporting a disturbance with a firearm on Winding Way in Frankfort, Franklin County. The female subject advised Frankfort Dispatch a male subject in the residence had trapped her inside, pointed a gun at her and threatened to shoot anyone who came into the house.

Upon arrival, FPD Units contacted the female by phone. The female advised the officers she had secured herself in a separate part of the house away from the male subject. The officers maintained contact with the female while the FPD Tactical Response Unit and Hostage Negotiation Teams were called to the scene. Once on scene, TRU established a perimeter around the residence in order to secure the area.

The armed male subject suddenly exited the residence, brandishing a handgun. TRU Units identified themselves as police officers and gave numerous verbal commands to drop the weapon. The male subject pointed his handgun at police and was shot. Tactical Medics on scene provided immediate medical attention until the subject could be transported to Franklin County Regional Medical Center where he died from gunshot wounds.

The female subject was not injured in the incident. All Officers at the scene have been placed on administrative leave. The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police.
