Fayette County Traffic Stop Turns into Cocaine Seizures

(Frankfort, KY) – On November 24, 2012, 8:58 pm, Trooper Smith initiated a traffic stop on a 2005 Chevy Impala for speeding on New Circle Road in Fayette County. During the traffic stop the passenger Marquis L. Cottrell, age 31 of Lexington, fled on foot and was apprehended by Tpr. Smith. He was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication, Fleeing, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Marijuana.
The driver Brittany Bibbs, age 22 of Lexington was arrested and charged with DUI, Possession of Marijuana and numerous traffic violations. Both subjects were lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.
Troopers from the Frankfort Post assisted Tpr. Smith in the execution of a search warrant on the arrestee's vehicle. A 9mm handgun and 253 grams of cocaine was seized. The cocaine seized is valued at approximately $30,000.00.
Bibbs was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon. Cottrell was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon.
