Assault Investigation Involving a One Month-Old Child in Shelby County

(Post 12 Frankfort) -- On Monday, October 8, 2012 Kentucky State Police Frankfort Post Detective Ben Wolcott and the Shelby County Cabinet for Health and Family Services started a joint investigation. The investigation involves a Shelby County one month-old Hispanic male who arrived at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville with injuries to his head and face. The join investigation included multiple interviews and hours of utilizing a Spanish translator. The assault occurred at a Shelby County apartment complex in Shelbyville, KY.
On Monday, October 15, 2012, KSP arrested the child's biological mother Hermelinda Ramos-Perez, age 29 of Shelbyville, KY. She was charged with Assault 2nd degree-domestic violence and was lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center. Based on Ramos-Perez's immigration status, an ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detainer has been placed on Ramos-Perez. The investigation remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police Frankfort Post more arrests are pending.
