Shelby County Man Charged with Murder

(Post 12 Frankfort) -- On September 24, 2012, the Kentucky State Police Frankfort Post arrested Lonnie Monroe for Murder and DUI. The charges are from a tractor trailer crash that occurred on October 9, 2011 in Shelby County. On that date Lonnie Monroe of Shelbyville KY was operating a tractor trailer under the influence of drugs when he was involved in a single vehicle collision. His passenger James Lee Jacobs of Shelbyville, KY was killed in the crash.

Lonnie Monroe has been lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center. He is charged with Murder, CDL Under the Influences Controlled Substance, CDL Not licensed, No Intrastate Authorized Authority, Violation Part 391 Fed Safety Reg (Qualification of Drivers), Violation Part 393 Fed Safety Reg (Parts Needed Safe Operation), Violation Part 392 Fed Safety Reg (Driving of Motor Vehicle), Improper uses of Farm Plates and No Registration Plates.

(The original release states) On Wednesday, October 09, 2011 at 11:08 AM the Shelby County dispatch received a report of injury collision on KY-148 (Fishersville Rd) in Shelby County. Lonnie Monroe was operating a 1992 Ford Semi pulling a trailer westbound on KY-148. Mr. Monroe was passing a stopped US Postal Mail worker delivering mail. He lost control of his semi and left the westbound side of the roadway and overturned. He next struck some small trees and a fence. The driver Mr. Monroe was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital. The passenger James L. Jacob was fatally injured during the collision. The collision is under investigation by the Kentucky State Police Post 12 Collision Reconstruction Team.
