Shooting Investigation in Franklin County

(Post 12, Frankfort) -- On Friday, August 17, 2012 at 9:58 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 12 Frankfort, received a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance on Galbraith Road in Franklin County. Upon arrival the Troopers located an injured female in a driveway of the residence on Galbraith Road. Franklin County EMS arrived at the scene and began to treat the female victim for injuries she received during the domestic.
A criminal check on Paul D. Demaree, age 38 of Frankfort, KY turned up two active warrants for Assault 4th (domestic violence) and Burglary 2nd. Troopers entered the residence to arrest the subject on the warrants and to investigate the 911 domestic disturbances.
Mr. Demaree was found in possession of a handgun and was given numerous verbal commands to drop his weapon. The subject pointed his handgun at Troopers and was shot. He was transported to the Franklin County Regional Medical Center were he died from his gun shot wound.
The female victim was taken to the hospital by EMS.
The Trooper who fired his weapon is identified as Trooper John B. Hawkins. He has been a Trooper for 7 years and 10 months. Trooper Hawkins, a Sergeant and two others Troopers remain on administrative leave.
The investigation is ongoing by KSP.
