Lexington Man Arrested After Pursuit

(Frankfort, KY.) -- On May 2, 2012 at 11:01 AM, a Kentucky State Police Detective was traveling on the inner loop of New Circle in Lexington the area of the Georgetown Road. A red SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed and reckless when it approached the detective's cruiser. The reckless SUV then passed the detective. The detective activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the reckless SUV. The driver Joshua M. D. Garvin refused to comply and a pursuit began.
The driver continued northbound on the inner loop of New Circle Road until he exited onto Newtown Pike. The driver then made a u-turn on Newtown Pike and returned to outbound New Circle Road traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. He again leaves New Circle Road and travels onto Leestown Road. He travels inbound and returns to outbound New Circle Road and continues to flee.
He exited the outer loop of New Circle Road at Old Frankfort Pike where the detective lost sight of the eluding vehicle. The detective then terminates the pursuit. Concerned citizens report that the eluding vehicle has returned to the outer loop of New Circle Road.
Mr. Garvin travels on the outer loop of New Circle Road toward Harrodsburg Road. At the Harrodsburg Road exit a Lexington Division of Police Officer attempts to deploy stop sticks to flatten the eluding vehicle's tires. Mr. Garvin attempts to run over the officer and continues eluding.
The reckless SUV is running other vehicles off the roadway and strikes a vehicle in the rear south of Nicholasville Road on New Circle Road. That vehicle then strikes another passenger car. The reckless driver vehicle become disable and he bring it to final rest on the shoulder of the roadway. Mr. Garvin abandons his vehicle and a foot pursuit begins. He jumps down the embankment onto Lansdowne Drive with officers following him. At 11:30 AM, Mr. Garvin was located at Redding Road and Alpine Court by Lexington Officers.
Joshua M. D. Garvin, age 24 of Lexington has been charged with 5 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st, 1 count of Assault 1st, DUI 1st (drug), 2 counts of Fleeing and Evading 1st, 1 count of Failure to Render Aid, No Operator License, No Insurance, Reckless Driving and Careless Driving. He was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center. The Kentucky State Police were assisted by the Lexington Division Police and their Police Helicopter. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police Frankfort Post.
