Fatal Traffic Crash in McCreary County

(LONDON, Ky.) -- On Thursday, November 29, 2012 at approximately 9:55 AM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a two (2) vehicle traffic crash at the one (1) mile marker on US-27 in McCreary County.

Upon arrival Trooper Philip Hayes determined that a red, 2000, Saturn, passenger car, operated by Margie Privett, 67, of Pine Knot, KY was southbound on US-27 when, for some unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and struck a blue, 1999, Kenworth, tractor / trailer, operated by Patrick A. Furkins, 46, of Columbia, KY, head-on.

Privett, who was wearing her seat belt, was pronounced dead by the McCreary County Coroner Dan Ridner.

Furkins, who was wearing his seat belt, was transported to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

No drug or alcohol usage was suspected.

Trooper Hayes is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by officers from the Kentucky State Police, Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the McCreary County Sheriff's Office, the McCreary County Coroner's Office, the McCreary County EMS and the Pine Knot Fire Department.
