Vehicle Pursuit and Arrest in Laurel County

(London, KY.) –- – On Sunday, August 19, 2012, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a request to be on the lookout for a tan, 2000, Chevrolet S-10, bearing a Florida registration plate, in reference to a runaway juvenile from Holmes County, Florida.
On Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 8:08 PM KSP Troopers Adam Childress and Mike King responded to a London area motel to attempt to locate the vehicle. Upon entering the parking lot the troopers observed a male and female approaching the vehicle and attempted to stop them for questioning. The two entered the vehicle and then fled from officers resulting in a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit of the vehicle traveled approximately 15 miles through Laurel County before the vehicle began to slow where troopers were able to block its path and get it stopped.
The driver, Dustin Simmons, 18, of Westville, Florida was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police 1ST Degree, Unlawful Transaction with a Minor 3rd Degree, Disregarding a Stop Sign, Disregarding a Traffic Control Device, Failure to Wear Seatbelts and Resisting Arrest. Simmons was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
The female juvenile was taken into protective custody and released to a family member.
Additional charges, from other agencies, are expected to be taken against Simmons in reference to this incident.
Trooper Adam Childress is continuing the investigation and was assisted by Trooper Mike King, Trooper Ryan Loudermilk, the London City Police Department and the Laurel County Sheriff's Department.
