3 From Ohio Arrested on Various Charges After Traffic Stop

(London, KY.) –- On Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at approximately 8:25 PM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Chrysler Sebring for a speeding violation on Interstate 75 at the 45 mile marker.
Upon contacting and communicating with the driver the officers could smell the strong odor of Marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Further investigation determined that the operator, Cornelius Blankenship, 20, of Columbus, Ohio was under the influence of drugs. Cornelius was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence of Drugs, Possession of Marijuana and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
Two passengers in the vehicle, Carl Keys, 30 and Ashlea Rawlins, 25, both of Columbus, Ohio were also arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1ST Degree, Possession of Marijuana and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
Discovered and seized during the traffic stop were 13 Methadone pills, 10 grams of Marijuana and $18,780.00 in cash. The cash was turned over to the DEA.
A three (3) year old child passenger in the vehicle was taken into protective custody and turned over to a worker from the Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children.
All persons arrested were lodged in the Laurel County Detention center.
The KSP Post 11 Criminal Interdiction team consisted of: Laurel County Chief Deputy Eddie Sizemore (who observed the speeding violation), KSP Sergeant Lafe Owens, KSP Troopers Adam Childress, Mike King, Ryan Loudermilk and Jason McCowan.
Trooper Childress is continuing the investigation.
