Fatal House Fire Investigation in McCreary County

(London, KY.) -– On Sunday, February 12, 2012 at approximately 4:12 AM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a structure fire, that resulted in the death of two (2) individuals, at a home on Black Walnut Road in the Whitley City Community of McCreary County.
Preliminary investigation indicates the home was occupied by four (4) (non-family) individuals, one (1) adult female caregiver, two (2) mentally disabled adult males and one (1) mentally disabled 17 year old juvenile male.
The adult female caregiver was pronounced dead at the scene. One (1) adult male and the juvenile male were transported to the Saint Mary's Hospital in Scott County, TN, where the juvenile was pronounced dead. The other adult male was uninjured.
Preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire indicates a possible origin to be a wood burning stove.
The names of the individuals involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
No foul play is suspected and autopsies will be scheduled for both victims.
KSP Post 11 Detective Billy Correll is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by KSP Post 11 Arson Investigator Brian Lewis, the State Fire Marshall's Office, the McCreary County Sheriff's Department, the Whitley City Fire Department, the McCreary County Coroner's Office and the McCreary County EMS.
