Fatal Traffic Crash in Rockcastle County

(LONDON, KY.) - On Saturday, January 07, 2012 at approximately 1:10 PM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a two vehicle traffic crash on US 150 at the intersection with Maretburg Road in Rockcastle County.

Upon arrival Trooper Ryan Loudermilk determined that a black, 1989, Ford, Thunderbird, operated by Jody Hayes, 23, of Brodhead was traveling westbound on US 150 when it made a left turn toward Maretburg Road into the path of an eastbound, white, 1990, Lincoln, Town Car, operated by Wendy Riley, 41, of Mount Vernon.

Jody Hayes, who was seat belted, was not injured in the crash.

A front seat passenger in the Ford, Tony Hayes, 29, of Mount Vernon, (boyfriend of Jody Hayes) who was seat belted, was transported to the Rockcastle County Hospital for treatment and later released.

A rear seat (center) passenger in the Ford, Jada Hayes, 7, of Mount Vernon, (daughter of Tony Hayes) was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment. Hayes, who was not restrained in the vehicle, was pronounced dead on January 08, 2012 at 12:20 PM by the Fayette County Coroners Office.

A second rear seat (right side) passenger in the Ford, Malachi Hayes, 5, (son of Tony Hayes) who was not restrained in the vehicle, was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.

A third rear seat (left side) passenger in the Ford, Madison Hayes, 3, of Brodhead, (daughter of Jody Hayes) which was restrained in a child safety seat, was taken to the Rockcastle County Hospital for treatment and later released.

The operator of the Lincoln, Wendy Riley, 41, of Mount Vernon, who was seat belted, was taken to the Rockcastle County Hospital for treatment and later released.

A front seat passenger in the Lincoln, Aubriauna Jones, 7, of Mount Vernon, (daughter of Wendy Riley) who was seat belted, was taken to the Rockcastle County Hospital for treatment and later released.

Alcohol and/or drug usage is not suspected.

Trooper Loudermilk is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by officers of the Rockcastle County Sheriff's Department, the Mount Vernon Police Department, the Rockcastle County EMS and the Mount Vernon Fire and Rescue.
