Drowning Investigation in Elkhorn City, Ky

(Elkhorn City, Ky.) -- On July 18, 2011 at 5:41 PM Post 9 Pikeville received a 911 call of a possible drowning in the Russell Fork of the Big Sandy River in the Elkhorn City community of Pike County. KSP units along with divers from Millard -East Shelbianna Fire Department, Pike County Sheriffs Department Dive team, Elkhorn City Fire Department and Pike County Emergency Management responded to the scene and began searching the area for the missing male swimmer. On July 21, 2011 at 3:53 PM the body of the missing swimmer was located and identified as 19 year old Justin Cole of Elkhorn City. The body of Justin Cole was transported to Frankfort, Ky. Where an autopsy will be performed. The search was conducted by members of Millard-East Shelbianna Fire Department and Elkhorn City Fire Department. This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Kevin Thacker. Trooper Thacker was assisted by KSP Detectives Gary Sykes and Jason Merlo.
