Fatal collision on US 23 in Floyd County

(Harold, Ky.) -- On February 6, 2011 at approximately 5:23 pm, KSP Post 9 in Pikeville received a call of a collision in front of the Harold Double Kwik gas station on US 23 in Floyd County. Upon investigation, it was determined that a tan 2004 Chevrolet Blazer being operated by Larry Ratliff, 62, of Banner, was traveling north on US 23 and attempted to turn left into the gas station. A 1999 white Toyota Tacoma operated by Douglas Williamson, 45, of Kimper was traveling south on US 23. Mr Ratliff's vehicle traveled into the path of Mr Williamson's vehicle. Mr Williamson's vehicle struck the passenger side of Mr Ratliff's vehicle. A passenger in Mr Ratliff's vehicle, Tabatha Bentley, 42, of Dwale, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Mr. Williamson and Mr. Ratliff were transported to Pikeville Medical Center for their injuries. The collision is under investigation by TFC Eddie Crum. TFC Crum was assisted at the scene by Sgt Jennifer Sandlin and Tpr Ryan Hamilton.

Larry Ratliff later died due to injuries sustained in the accident. Larry Ratliff was pronounced dead at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN. on Monday February 7, 2011 at 1:30 AM.
