Shooting investigation in Magoffin County

Date of News Release: 02/03/2011

(Gunlock, Ky.) -- On Wednesday February 2, 2011 at 4:03 PM Post 9 Pikeville received a shooting complaint at the J&J General Store at Gunlock in Magoffin County. KSP units along with units from the Magoffin County Sheriffs Department arrived on scene and took 44 year old Colonel L. Bolen of Trace Fork into custody without incident. Information gathered at the scene indicates that Colonel Bolen arrived outside the business and began firing a weapon. Three people were injured as a result of this gunfire. All three victims were in stable condition at the time of this release.

Colonel L. Bolen was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center was charged with three counts of Attempted Murder. Other charges are pending presentation to the Magoffin County Grand Jury.

This incident remains under investigation by KSP Detective Jason Dials. Detective Dials was assisted on scene by Sgt. Randy McCarty, Sgt. Ronald Peppi, Sgt. Anthony Taulbee, Sgt.
