Injury accident on I-64 in Montgomery County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On November 23, 2011, Kentucky State Police Morehead received multiple 911 calls of a male subject that had been struck by a car at the 115 mile marker on Interstate 64. Timothy Vanderpool, 32 of Morehead was walking eastbound on Interstate 64 after a verbal altercation with a female that he was riding in a vehicle with. Mr. Vanderpool exited the vehicle while it was still in motion. Mr. Vanderpool started walking eastbound on Interstate 64 when he intentionally jumped into the path of a 2010 Lexus SUV driven by Benjamin Davis of Lexington. Mr. Vanderpool advised Troopers on scene that he intentionally tried to take his own life by stepping out in front of oncoming traffic. Mr. Vanderpool was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY with injuries to his lower extremities. No charges are pending against the driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Vanderpool. The quick reaction of Mr. Benjamin Davis prevented Mr. Vanderpool from being killed at the scene. The accident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Morehead.
