Fatal collision on I-64 in Bath County

Date of News Release: 11/05/2011

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On November 5, 2011, at 2:23 PM, Kentucky State Police in Morehead received a call advising of an accident at the 120 mile marker eastbound on Interstate 64. Trooper Scott Ferrell, Bath County Sheriff's Department, Bath County EMS, and Owingsville Fire Department responded to the scene. Charles Herald was operating a 1993 Dodge Ram Charger, hauling a pull behind camper, traveling eastbound. The camper started to fishtail and Mr. Herald lost control of the vehicle. The Dodge exited the right shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree on the driver's side before coming to final rest. Mr. Herald was flown from the scene to the UK Medical center in Lexington. Charles T. Herald was pronounced deceased by Fayette County Coroner John McCarty at 3:26 PM. Next of kin was notified by the West Virginia State Police. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Scott Ferrell.
