Two injured in a single vehicle collision on I-64

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On Thursday November 3, 2011 at 11:14 PM, Kentucky State Police Morehead received a call from Montgomery County Dispatch stating that there had been a single vehicle injury accident at the 105 mile marker eastbound. Trooper Jason Brown, Trooper Scott Ferrell and Montgomery County Fire and EMS responded the scene. Penny Maggard was driving her 2005 Chevy Suburban with her husband Terry Maggard as the passenger. They were traveling eastbound when their vehicle hydroplaned due to standing water on the roadway and heavy rainfall. Mrs. Maggard lost control of the vehicle flipping over the guardrail and coming to rest at the bottom of a thirty foot embankment. Mr. Maggard was extricated from the vehicle and both subjects were taken to Saint Joseph's Hospital in Mount Sterling and later taken to UK Medical Center. Mrs. Maggard suffered a fractured neck and is listed in stable condition. Mr. Maggard suffered multiple injuries to the chest and head and is listed in critical condition. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Jason Brown.
