Injury collision on Interstate 64

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On October 11, 2011, at 6:07 PM Kentucky State Police in Morehead was notified by Montgomery County Dispatch of a possible vehicle fire on Interstate 64 westbound at the 111 mile marker. Trooper Scott Ferrell, Trooper Aaron Brown, Montgomery County EMS, and Montgomery County Fire Department responded to the scene. Shortly afterwards, Montgomery County Dispatch advised Kentucky State Police Post 8 dispatch of an injury accident at the same location. Dustin Bell was operating a 2005 Volkswagon Jetta westbound on Interstate 64. Mr. Bell observed what he thought to be a vehicle fire on the interstate. Mr. Bell stopped his vehicle in the middle of the interstate. Kathy Roberts was operating a 2004 Toyota Camry westbound on Interstate 64. Ms. Robert's vehicle struck the Volkswagon Jetta on the rear bumper before both vehicles came to final rest on the right shoulder of Interstate 64. Ms. Roberts and passengers, Jessica Roberts and April Miller, were taken to Saint Joseph East Hospital in Mount Sterling for treatment. Dustin Bell was also transported to Saint Joseph East Hospital for treatment. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Scott Ferrell.
