Update to the Murder Investigation in Elliott County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On October 4, 2011, Kentucky State Police Morehead Detetive Donnie McGraw interviewed Melinda Applegate in connection to the murder of Earl Ray Adkins that occurred on October 2, 2011 in Elliott County. During the interview, Ms. Applegate made statements to Detective McGraw about her involvement in the incident involving Mr. Adkins. Ms. Applegate was taken into custody and has been charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence. Ms. Applegate is being lodged at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville, KY.
Kentucky State Police Morehead Troopers extradited Bobby Gilliam, 31, of Sandy Hook for the murder of Earl Ray Adkins. Mr. Gilliam was arrested in Clinton County Ohio on October 2, 2011. Mr. Gilliam has been charged with Capital Murder and is being lodged at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville, KY.
Additional charges are pending on both subjects. The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Morehead.

Murder Investigation in Elliott County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police at Morehead are investigating the murder of an Elliott County man. The body of Earl Ray Adkins, 48, of Sandy Hook, was discovered outside his residence along KY 650 on Sunday, 10/02/2011. Evidence revealed that Mr. Adkins was the victim of a gunshot-related homicide. Investigation led to the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of Bobby Gilliam, 31, of Sandy Hook. Mr. Gilliam was located and arrested by the Clinton County, Ohio Sheriff's Office that same afternoon. He is presently being held as a fugitive from justice in Ohio, but upon his return to Kentucky, Mr. Gilliam is expected to face charges including Murder, Robbery (1st degree), Burglary (1st degree), and Tampering with Physical Evidence. KSP was assisted in the investigation by the Elliott County Sheriff's Office, the Elliott County Coroner's Office, the Clinton County, Ohio Sheriff's Office, and the West Carrollton, Ohio Police Department. The investigation is continuing by Detective Donnie McGraw of the KSP's Morehead Post.
