Child Abuse Case in Bath County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, September 7th, 2011, at 8:38 p.m. Kentucky State Police in Morehead received a call from Saint Claire Medical Center in Morehead concerning a 3 month old child in the emergency room that had been transported to the hospital by Bath County Emergency Medical Service from a residence in Bath County. Child abuse was suspected by hospital staff. Detective Toby Gardner and Trooper Jay Cottrell responded to the hospital where an investigation was launched. As a result of the investigation, Matthew P. Jones, age 22 of Owingsville Kentucky was arrested by Detective Gardner and charged with Criminal Abuse 1st Degree Child 12 or Under, a Class C felony. Jones was lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center.
