Kentucky State Police Post 08 Softball Champions

Post 8, the winners of the 2011 State Police Softball Tournament Championship

(Morehead, Ky.) -- Captain Bobby D. Murray, Commander of the Kentucky State Police Post at Morehead, is pleased to announce that the Morehead Post won the 2011 State Police Softball Tournament Championship held at Capital View Park in Frankfort this past weekend. After several strong efforts in the past, this is the first time in the history of the tournament that Post 08 has brought home the softball championship. On Saturday, July 30, Post 08 rallied against Dry Ridge and Pikeville Posts, "sliding" into position as a serious tournament contender. On the following day, Post 08 played the Special Enforcement Troop team in the semi-finals and the the championship game. The Morehead team was able to put up a few big innings to win the championship game, 21-11.

This year's Post 08 team was comprised of seventeen Troopers and one dispatcher. The tournament MVP was Post 08's dispatcher, Bryant Furman. During the championship game against Special Enforcement, Furman was able to hit two home runs. In addition to Furman, three other Post 08 players were part of the All-Tournament Team. They include Detective Virgil Rucker - Pitcher, Trooper Brandon Eversole - Right Center Field, and Trooper Chris Jones - Left Center Field.

Other members of the championship team include Captain Bobby D. Murray, Lieutenant John Dowdy, Sergeant Robb Conn, Detectives Donnie McGraw and Wes Prather, Troopers Charlie Bolin, Anthony Bowling, Erwin Eiserman, Britt Rollins, Nathan Shortridge, Anson Tribby, Keith Howard, Whitney Howard, and Joe Veeneman.

Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Trooper Island, a 34 acre island located on Dale Hollow Reservoir. The facility is under the direction of Sergeant Craig Sutton. Trooper Island continues to benefit many less fortunate children, providing many types skills and training. Anyone wishing to offer donations or promote a future child candidate for Trooper Island should contact their respective Post or Sergeant Sutton.
