Wanton Endangerment Arrest in Mason County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On June 14, 2011 at 5:13 p.m. Kentucky State Police Morehead received a call for service from Mason County Dispatch in reference to a shots fired complaint on Conway Street in Mayslick, KY. Retired Mason County Sheriff Department Deputy Charles Lane observed a domestic disturbance in progress. Mr. Lane tried to resolve the situation, but a hispanic male at the residence would not comply with the retired deputies commands. Lorenzo Lopez obtained a tobacco knife and threatened Mr. Lane. Retired Deputy Lane then retrieved a gun from his residence in order to protect himself. Mr. Lane then fired two shots in the direction of Mr. Lopez. Mr. Lopez was not struck by the shots that were fired by Mr. Lane. Officers then arrived on scene and took Mr. Lopez into custody for Wanton Endangerment, Resisting Arrest, Menacing and an unrelated warrant. A second subject on scene was arrested for Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place. The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Morehead.
