Injury collision on Flemingsburg Road, in Morehead

(Morehead, Ky.) -- At approximately 1:22 a.m. on Monday, June 06th, 2011, Kentucky State Police at Morehead was notified by Trooper Eugene Robinson that he had came upon an injury accident on Flemingsburg Road, in Morehead. Trooper Christopher Jones responded to the scene. Morehead Police Officer Bradley Gillock was travelling westbound on Flemingsburg Road responding to a complaint at the Rowan County High School, when a deer entered his lane of travel. Officer Gillock attempted to avoid the deer by swerving to the right but was unable to do so. After striking the deer Officer Gillock lost control of the vehicle going off the right side of the roadway striking a sign, he continued to travel up a grassy embankment causing the vehicle to overturn several times striking a commercial building and a parked vehicle before coming to a final rest. Officer Gillock was extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means by the Morehead Fire Department. Rowan County Emergency Medical Services transported Officer Gillock to Saint Claire Medical Center where he was treated and released. Accident remains under investigation by Trooper Christopher Jones.
