Stabbing Investigation and Arrest in Powell County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On April 7, 2011, Kentucky State Police was contact by St. Joseph East Hospital, in Mt. Sterling, Ky, and was informed that they had just admitted a male into the emergency room who had suffered stab wounds. Trooper Endre Samu and Sergeant Anthony Fannin responded to the hospital. Mr. Gregory Watkins informed Trooper Samu and Sergeant Fannin that he had been assaulted by John Charles at the EZ Stop Convenience Store in Clay City, Ky. Further investigation by Trooper Samu revealed a video recording of the altercation that confirmed Mr. Watkins' account. An arrest warrant was issued and served on John Charles at his residence on Frames Branch Road in Clay City, Ky. Mr. Charles was charged with Assault 1st Degree and is lodged in the Powell County Detention Center. Mr Gregory Watkins was treated and released from the UK Medical Center. The incident remains under investigation by Trooper Endre Samu.
