Injury collision on KY 173 in Elliott County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On March 31st, 2011 at 1647 hours, Kentucky State Police in Morehead was contacted by Elliott County Dispatch in reference to an injury accident, at KY 7 near Junction KY 173 in Elliott County. Trooper Royce Collett responded to the scene. Spatj Cable Company was working in the area, they had one lane of traffic closed with flagmen at each end. All construction signs were highly visible. Jason A. Charles was flagging traffic when he was stuck by a southbound 2003 Honda Accord operated by Ray Barker. After striking Mr. Charles, Mr. Barker continued driving, coming to rest after striking a 1998 International truck. As a result of the accident, Mr. Barker's airbags deployed. The 1998 International truck is a bucket truck that was stationary, Christopher Hunt was in the driver seat and Michael Brown was operating the bucket working on the cable lines. Ray Barker and Jason Charles were both transported by ambulance to University of Kentucky Medical Center. Mr. Hunt and Mr. Brown did not receive any injuries as a result of the collision. Incident remains under investigation by Trooper Royce Collett.
