Fatal collision on KY 36 in Menifee County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On February 10, 2011, at 1727 hours, Kentucky State Police Post 8 was notified by Menifee County Dispatch of a fatal collision on Kentucky 36. Trooper Scott Ferrell and Trooper Jason Brown responded to the scene. Christopher D. Hunt was operating a 1998 Chevrolet pickup east on Kentucky 36. Mr. Hunt failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of his vehicle. He dropped off the right shoulder of the road. Mr. Hunt's vehicle traveled onto the westbound lane of Kentucky 36 and struck a 2003 Lexus Sedan, operated by Randy A. Martin. Mr. Martin was traveling west on Kentucky 36. Both vehicles came to final rest in a ditch off the left shoulder of the westbound lane. Mr. Hunt, Mr. Martin, and Leah Martin, juvenile passenger in the Lexus, were transported by Menifee County EMS to Saint Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling. Christopher D. Hunt was pronounced deceased at 1855 hours this date by Dr. Phillip Wagoner. Next of kin were notified at the hospital by hospital staff. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Scott Ferrell.
