Explosive devise found in Fleming County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On 1/24/2011 Kentucky State Police in Morehead was contacted by Forestry Officer Andrew Black in regards to a hand grenade that had been found by a hunter the previous date in a wooded area on Johnson Road in Fleming County. Trooper Michael Wathen U/772, US Forestry, and Rowan County Fish and Wildlife Officers accompanied the hunter into the wooded area and located a small camp site with military gear and what appeared to be a live hand grenade. Investigators from KSP Special Operations Hazardous Materials and Explosives Division were contacted and responded to the scene where they rendered the grenade safe. A thorough investigation of the scene revealed information as to a suspect which was involved with the hand grenade. Trooper Wathen is continuing his investigation at this time and charges may be pending. Anyone having any further information is encouraged to contact Kentucky State Police at 6067844127.
