Morehead man arrested
Date of News Release: 01/23/2011
(Morehead, Ky.) -- At approximately 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, January 22nd, 2011, Kentucky State Police at Morehead received a report of a possible armed robbery at the Stop and Shop convenience store on Ky 519 in Rowan County. Lieutenant Sean Welch and Troopers David Zimmerman, Pat Zalone, and Keith Howard responded to the scene, along with deputies from the Rowan County Sheriff's Office. Investigation revealed that Brandon H. Gregory, 25, of Morehead, entered the store that afternoon and allegedly stole an undisclosed quantity of cash from the business while in possession of a stolen handgun. It is believed, however, that the gun played no role in the actual theft. Mr. Gregory fled the scene on foot, but was subsequently located and arrested without incident in a nearby wooded area. He was lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center and charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Theft of a Firearm. No one was injured during the commission of the crime. The incident remains under investigation by Trooper Zimmerman.
