Kidnapping and Assault in Estill County

Date of News Release: 12/19/2011

(Irvine, KY) -- On Monday December 19, 2011 at approximately 4:00 am EST the victim was leaving her home in Estill County going to work when her ex-boyfriend (Geraldo Ortiz Jr) grabbed her from behind. The female victim was stabbed several times and forced into a vehicle. Gerald Ortiz Jr. drove the victim to a rural part of Madison County and assaulted her. The victim was then taken to the perpetrator's residence in the city limits of Berea. While at the perpetrator's residence the victim was able to call 911. The perpetrator fled on foot upon learning that the victim called police but was located a short time later by the Berea Police Department. Due to the crimes occurring in multiple jurisdictions, the Kentucky State Police was contacted to conduct the investigation.

The victim was transported to the Saint Joseph Hospital in Berea and treated for non life threatening injuries.

Gerald Ortiz, Jr was arrested and was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center and charged with Kidnapping, Rape 1st Degree, Assault 1st Degree and Assault 4th degree.

The investigation is ongoing by Detective Chris Short with the Kentucky State Police.
