Berea Arson and Burglary Investigation

(Berea, KY) -- On December 12, 2011 at 02:48 am EST Trooper First Class Toby Coyle, was dispatched to assist the Berea Fire Department and Police Department at the scene of two suspicious fires. During the initial investigation it was determined to be suspicious and TFC Toby Coyle contacted Kentucky State Police Arson Investigator Pat Alford to continue the investigation.
Detective Alford determined that the first fire reported at 204 Chestnut Street at 2:36 am, which resulted in heavy damage, was the scene of a burglary as well. During the investigation several items inside the building had been moved and a cash box was emptied.
The second fire at 205 Washington Street, which was reported at 2:46 am, was an occupied dwelling resulted in minor damage.
Surveillance videos from the First Christian Church have been reviewed and show a possible suspect around the area of the Chestnut Street fire.
Relevant portions of the video will be released to the media for possible suspect identification.
No injuries were reported at either fire scene.
Kentucky State Police Arson Investigator Pat Alford is the investigating officer.
