Fatal Collision on Mt. Vernon Road

(Richmond, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, April 20, 2011, KSP Richmond received a call of a two vehicle accident with injuries on Mt. Vernon Road. A 1999 Ford Ranger, driven by Russell Cope of Berea, was traveling north on US HWY 25, (otherwise known as Mt. Vernon Road). A 1994 Ford Tempo, driven by Kenny Isaacs, was traveling south on US HWY 25. Mr. Cope, for unknown reasons, entered into Mr. Isaacs's lane of travel and struck him head on. The Ranger then came to a final rest after striking a tree. Mr. Cope was transported to St. Jospeh Berea by EMS and was airlifted from there to the University of Kentucky. Mr. Isaacs was also transported to UK via EMS. On April 22, 2011, cope was pronounced deceased at UK due to injuries sustained in the collison. Next of kin was notified by Fayette County Coroner's Office. The collision remains under investigation by trooper Toby Coyle, U/455.
