One killed-three injuredin Madison County collision

(Richmond, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal collision on Ky 52 approximately eight miles east of Richmond, that has left one person dead and three injured, including a Kentucky State Trooper. At 6:48 a.m., Trooper Chris Chenault responded to the report of a two-vehicle collision just west of the Madison/Estill County line on Ky 52. According to investigators, a 1999 Ford Taurus being operated by Roy T. Burgess - 63 of Irvine, was traveling east on Ky 52, when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle. The other vehicle, a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle, was being operated by Steve A. Skaggs - age 53 of Jeffersonville. Mr. Skaggs sustained multiple non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Pattie A. Clay Hospital for treatment. The passenger in Mr. Burgess' vehicle is identified as Jillian M. Willoughby - age 26 of Millersburg. Jillian M. Willoughby was transported by ambulance to the UK Medical Center with multiple injuries, and has undergone surgery. Trooper Chris Chenault - age 45 of Lexington, was injured when he was struck by a Madison County EMS ambulance while photographing the scene of the collision. Trooper Chenault sustained a leg injury and was transported to Central Baptist Hospital. Mr. Burgess was pronounced dead at the scene by Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison. The cause of the collision is unknown at this time. The crash remains under investigation by Trooper John Felder.
