Man arrested after attempting to steal ATV

(Smithfield, Ky.) -- Troopers of Post 5 have arrested a Henry County man after being caught by a homeowner while attempting to steal an ATV. Thirty five year old David B. Shirley, Jr. of Pleasureville was discovered at 1:51 p.m. today (12/7) by the homeowner of 3882 Ballardsville Road as he was 'hot wiring' an ATV in the driveway. The homeowner then held the alleged thief at gunpoint until Troopers arrived. No one was injured during the incident.

Mr. Shirley was arrested at 2:19 p.m. and taken to the Carroll County Detention Center with the following charges: Theft by Unlawful Taking - Automobile, Criminal Mischief - 3rd Degree, and Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container. The investigation is being conducted by Trooper Zach Morris. Trooper Morris was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff's Department and the Eminence Police Department.
