Henry County Emergency Operations Center Notification

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) -- On 04-25-2011 around 3:45 P.M, the Natural Resources Conservation Service notified Henry County Emergency Management Coordinator Bruce Owens in reference to damage to the Lake Jericho Dam. Inspectors on site of the Dam reported to Bruce Owens, erosion and surface cracking to the surface of the Dam. Based on the information provided to Bruce Owens he determined that in the interest of safety, an evacuation order should be issued to the community of Sulpher Kentucky and the surrounding homes along the Little Kentucky River. With the cooperation of the Campbellsburg, and Lake Jericho Fire Department an evacuation order was given to the home owners of the residences impacted.

A shelter has been set up at the Henry County 4-H building outside of New Castle, Ky. Arrangements are being made to have an engineer respond to the Dam and conduct a further investigation to determine the exact extent of the damage.
