Date of News Release: 04/24/2011

(Warsaw, Ky.) -- Troopers are investigating a collision involving a toddler boy being struck by a motorist on U.S. 42 within the community of Warsaw in Gallatin County. Through investigation, Troopers determined that Brandon Perez, 2 years old of Warsaw, was struck by a vehicle at 10:07 p.m. last night (4/23) when he ran into the roadway of U.S. 42 after attending a local church function. Brandon Perez was transported from the scene by Gallatin County EMS to the University of Cincinnati Children's hospital where he is currently in intensive care. Rainy nighttime conditions at that time combined with Brandon Perez's wearing of dark clothing appear to have contributed to the accidental collision. Barbara Lewis, 50 years old of Warsaw, was the driver involved in the collision. Preliminary investigation indicates that the collision was accidental and Ms. Lewis will not face criminal charges.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Dusty Corbin, an accident reconstructionist. The following agencies assisted Trooper Corbin at the scene: Warsaw Police Department, Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, Gallatin County EMS, and Gallatin County Fire Department.
