Pursuit, Crash & Arrest (KSP and ISP involved)

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) - At approximately 8:57 am on 12/21/2011, a white 2010 Chevrolet G3 van, driven by 26 year-old Carolyn S. Jones from Killeen, TX passed an unmarked Kentucky State Police unit on Interstate 65 near the 75 mile marker at a high rate of speed. The unmarked unit engaged his blue lights and siren and Jones refused to stop. It was also discovered that the van that Jones was driving was reported stolen by Hertz Rental Cars.

The pursuit continued through Hardin County on I-65. At around the 94 mile marker the suspects right front tire was deflated as the spike strips were deployed by another KSP unit.

The pursuit continued into Bullitt and Jefferson Counties as the suspect continued to resist our order to pull over. Between the Watterson Expressway and Fern Valley road, the suspect intentionally rammed into a marked KSP unit causing him to crash. The suspect then struck a civilian vehicle near the hospital curve in Jefferson County as the pursuit continued into Indiana. The pursuit ended when the suspect lost control of the stolen vehicle and crashed after ISP deployed another set of spike strips. Jones did resist arrest, however she was subdued and lodged in the Clark County, IN jail. ISP will be handling Indiana criminal charges. KSP Post 4 detectives will be handling Kentucky criminal charges, which will possibly include numerous traffic offenses as well as Receiving Stolen Property, Assault 1st, Wanton Endangerment 1st , Fleeing or Evading 1st, and possibly alcohol or drug charges depending on results of toxicology exam.

The pursuit involved multiple KSP units, Bullitt County SO, Louisville Metro, Jefferson County SO, Indiana State Police, and the Clarksville, IN PD.

Carolyn S. Jones was arrested by the ISP. No one was injured in the pursuit.

The investigation is ongoing.
