Fatal collision on US31W
Date of News Release: 12/19/2011
(Elizabethtown, Ky.) –- David D. Pandy III, age 35 from Vine Grove, KY was driving a 1996 black Honda Civic and Bobby D. Alvey age 41 from Louisville, KY was driving a 2000 silver Ford Focus and both were southbound on US31W. Karen W. Vuturo, 52 from Brandenburg, KY was driving a white 2004 Dodge SLT pickup and Vonda J. Carnegie was a white 2005 Honda Accord were northbound on US31W. Mr. Pandy for reasons unknown at this time crossed the center line and struck Ms. Carnegie's vehicle head-on at a slight angle. Ms. Carnegie's vehicle then struck Ms. Vuturo's vehicle in the drivers side rear. Mr. Pandy's vehicle crossed back into the southbound lane and struck Mr. Alvey's vehicle. David D. Pandy III was pronounced dead at the scene. Vonda J. Carnegie and Karen W. Vuturo were transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by the Meade County EMS where they were treated and released with minor injuries. Bobby D. Alvey was uninjured. All occupants in this crash appeared to have worn their seat belts. Toxicology and post-mortem examination results are pending. US31W was closed at the crash site for over 3 hours.
KSP reconstructionist Tpr. Brad Riley is investigating the collision. We were assisted by other Post 4 Troopers, the Muldraugh PD, West Point PD, Muldraugh Fire Dept., Meade County EMS, and the Meade County Sheriff's Dept.
