Investigation at the Breckinridge County High School

Date of News Release: 12/16/2011

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) - On Thursday December 15, Post 4 Trooper Jason Drane began an investigation at the Breckinridge County High School where several juveniles were interviewed in reference to threats made to the school. The threats involved a posting on the social networking site, Facebook, which involved the use of weapons at the school. Upon further investigation it was discovered that 7 juveniles belonged to this page and all 7 of them were interviewed. One of the seven confessed to posting the threat. He is a former student at Breckinridge County High, but is no longer a student in that school district. The threat apparently involved the lyrics to a song by the Insane Clown Posse band. No specific threats to students or staff were made, however based on the posts it was clear that the threats were directed at Breckinridge County High School. Once the complaint was made known to the KSP, we immediately began an investigation. It was determined a short time later that no students or faculty were in immediate danger as a result of this post. If there had been a potential danger, KSP and the school district would have notified parents and faculty and necessary steps would have been taken. As a result of our investigation, a juvenile petition has been signed and will be served on the juvenile that confessed to making the post. He faces the charge of Terroristic Threatening 2nd Degree. As of the time of this release, the juvenile has not been served. It will be up to the Breckinridge County Court System to determine whether the juvenile will be charged as an adult or remain in juvenile court. We were assisted in our initial investigation by the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Department and the Hardinsburg Police Department. The investigation is ongoing.
