One killed in a collision on I-65

Date of News Release: 08/24/2011

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, August 24, at 1:33 pm Eastern time, the Elizabethtown Post of the Kentucky State Police responded to reports of a possible fatality accident on northbound I-65, near exit 86. The accident was investigated by Trooper Chris Berry. Trooper Berry reports that a 2000 Ford Escort, operated by April L. Crain (age 20 of Upton, KY), was traveling north in the left lane of I-65, as it approached exit 86. A 2006 International semi-tractor and trailer, operated by Larry E. Harris (age 56 of Nashville, TN), was also traveling north in the left lane, when it began to slow as it entered a lane merge in a road construction zone. For unknown reasons, April Crain failed to notice that Mr. Harris' vehicle had slowed, and struck the rear of the vehicle's trailer. April Crain suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Larry Harris was not injured. Trooper Berry's investigation is ongoing.
