Several motorcycle involved in a collision on I-65

Date of News Release: 03/23/2011

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) - On March 22, 2011, at 3:11 pm EDT, the Kentucky State Police Post in Elizabethtown was notified of a multiple vehicle accident on northbound I-65, near mile marker 86. Troopers were dispatched to the scene; and, upon arrival, units discovered that the accident involved several motorcycles. The investigation into this accident revealed that eight motorcycle operators were traveling in a group on northbound I-65, as they approached traffic that was slowed due to road construction and an earlier accident. The four motorcycle operators at the rear of the group did not immediately recognize the slowed traffic; and, in an effort to avoid a collision, the motorists laid their motorcycles down. Jeremy D Byrd (age 33 of Dayton, OH), the operator of a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to University of Louisville Hospital by Air Methods. Peter A Sendlbeck (age 40 of Amherst, NY), the operator of a 1994 Harley Davidson motorcycle, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by Hardin County EMS. Christopher J Kauffman (age 26 of Redford Township, MI), the operator of a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle, suffered minor injuries; however, he refused treatment and transport. Andrew F Snow (age 26 of Detroit, MI), the operator of a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was not injured.
