Injury collision on US 231 south in Warren County

(Bowling Green, Ky.) –- On Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at 7:00 am, Kentucky State Police Post 03 responded to an injury accident at US 231 south and Natcher Parkway.
Trooper Terry Alexander's preliminary report shows that a 2005 Freightliner being operated by Chester Shaffer (66) of Knox, PA was traveling south on US 231. A second vehicle, a 1996 Ford Explorer, being operated by Christopher Knight (40) of Lafayette, TN was headed north bound and was attempting to make a left turn from US 231 onto the Natcher Parkway.
When Mr. Knight made the left turn he was struck by Mr. Shaffer's vehicle. Mr. Knight was ejected from his vehicle and landed in the roadway, Mr. Knight was unrestrained in his vehicle.
A witness, who was behind Mr. Knight's vehicle at the time of the collision, stated that Mr. Knight had a green turn arrow when he made the left turn and was struck by Mr. Shaffer's vehicle. Mr. Shaffer stated that he had the green light when he entered the intersection and struck Mr. Knight's vehicle.
Mr. Knight was transported to the Bowling Green Medical center where he is being treated for multiple injuries.
Mr. Shaffer was wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision and was uninjured.
Trooper Terry Alexander is leading this investigation which is still ongoing.
Trooper Terry Alexander was assisted at the scene by the Alvaton Fire Department, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Warren County Emergency Management.
